So, I have been cosplaying for about 5 years now, and have always struggled with choosing my costumes for anime conventions. Why? Well, because they are "anime" cons, I always feel as though it is more appropriate to dress as something from an anime, manga or video game – something that fits within the genre of the con. Controversy arises in that I find myself doing this at the expense of dressing up as other characters I may have preferred simply because they don't seem well-suited for the kind of cons I attend. I've had a very interesting experience this evening, resulting in two somewhat conflicting considerations of the expression of, for lack of a better word, "femininity." To put the rant into context, I was explicitly dressed as your cliche prostitute for one of ~vividstarlightdream (https://www.deviantart.com/vividstarlightdream)'s photography projects. I am very short, have short dark hair and never wear makeup. I always wear casual clothes, jeans and a T-shirt or sweater. In my entire life, I've maybe been honked at three times. So. Last year after Anime North, I was so very depressed, lol. This year it seems to be having a totally different effect on me. Rather than being emo about it, I feel totally and utterly useless because I have nothing to create. This is a great revelation/reminder that in life I do NEED to create. Now, what to do!! Perhaps some drawings, start on next years costumes? Guitar maybe, piano? Learn harmonica? This is a tiny entry, but I am happy :)
